- The Manager will have the responsibility of managing the station's business plan alongside the company's leadership team, which includes overseeing budgeting and financial performance. Additionally, the Manager must prepare, uphold, and distribute reports that support business analysis and the achievement of strategic objectives. Naturally, excellent written and verbal communication skills are and expectation of this role.
- To maintain a high level of communication & liaison with the company’s internal and external stakeholders to conduct effective performance development plans through ongoing discussion and planning.
- To develop an annual workforce plan for the station and to recruit and retain quality staff while promoting and directing staff to comply with company policies and procedures and develop individualised coaching, mentoring and learning opportunities.

Livestock, Land Management & Maintenance:
- To possess an excellent knowledge of cattle husbandry, herd management and animal handling and treatment and have the ability to manage branding, weaning, weighing, culling, sales and herd health programs as required.
- To maintain quality assurance records of the herd and paddocks in addition to growth rates and stock condition in general and to plan & effectively manage livestock programs and practice to comply with company policies and relevant legislation. This includes the management and implementation of contemporary biosecurity programs.
- To have the ability to recognise and adjust livestock distributions according to pasture quality and quantity.
- To be capable of attending to programs such as pasture optimisation, water resource management, weed and pest management, drought and flood preparedness, fire management, public access and nature conservation.
- To plan, manage and implement annual maintenance and capital improvement programs including station infrastructure, machinery and assets and ensure that all station maintenance meets quality and legislative standards.

- The successful candidate within this position will present with a minimum of three previous years of experience within station leadership roles, ideally within a similar size and environment.

Positioned within the Whitsunday rural region of Queensland 45 minutes’ drive from Collinsville, lies my client’s 60,000-acre cattle station satisfying an all-Droughtmaster breeding herd. Together with its ideal proximity to the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and optimal rainfall, the successful candidate within this position will enjoy the best of both worlds and be prepared to settle in for the long run! This dual role position provides the candidates the opportunity to present their diverse range of skills across maintenance and livestock work.
Key Responsibilities & Criteria:
- One candidate to demonstrate natural yet advanced horsemanship abilities, including the skill to work the owner’s young stock horses on cattle regularly.
- One candidate to read cattle effectively and work well in partnership with the owners and other staff within a cattle yard environment using low stress stock handling methods within the well-handled, quiet herd.
- One candidate to either hold or be willing to obtain a HR truck licence.
- One candidate to bring sound mechanical skills which may be utilised in a workshop setting or within the repair or installation of existing and new stock watering points.
- One candidate to be able to operate machinery such as smaller 80HP tractors as required with the opportunity to work larger machinery such as a D6 CAT dozer if capable.
- Both candidates to have the ability to ride a quad bike.
Up to three (3) horses may be brought to the property with the understanding that the owners’ horses must still be worked as part of the position - tack is supplied or may be brought along.
A cottage is available to the successful couple which is located on the property and suitable for a couple only. Our client has indicated that in addition to the salary (being a negotiable figure based on experience), the house, meat and power will be included. Pets will be considered by negotiation however no inside pets are allowed in the provided accommodation residence and working dogs are not used on cattle.
MACHINERY OPERATOR, FITZROY RIVER WA

Situated west of Fitzroy Crossing, our client’s cattle station encompasses over half a million acres in the picturesque Western Kimberley Region of the state integrating an extensive beef cattle breeding operation incorporating an all-expansive program including the use of helicopters, horses, motorbikes, heavy plant and equipment and by employing a large station crew. Our client prides themselves upon the teamwork and community, where all team members are valued and respected and play individual integral roles contributing to the successful and smooth running of the station.
A position now exists for a Machinery Operator to join the team predominantly operating the station grader and dozer. The successful Machinery Operator will report to the station manager and be supervised by other nominated company employees from time to time and will ultimately be responsible for road and fence line maintenance on the station.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Operate and maintain a grader to maintain property roads, airstrips, fence lines and fire breaks.
- Operate and maintain a dozer to undertake earthworks including cleaning out of dams and turkey’s nests, tree pushing, stick-raking and ploughing with a cutter bar.
- To maintain the machinery to the best of your ability in a safe operational condition and ensure that regular servicing, planned and unplanned maintenance is attended to.
- To monitor & report of fuel, oil and spare parts usage.
- To keep the machinery clean and presentable including washing down the exterior and interior.
- To conduct all property observations while operating machinery.
- While operating machinery, report any abnormalities or injured stock to the property manager regularly and to checking all fences and report any cattle within the turkey nest enclosures.
Essential Criteria:
- To hold a current Heavy Rigid (HR) licence.
- To have previous experience operating heavy earthmoving equipment.
- To have the ability to read and interpret workplace-related documentation and to bring sound written and spoken communication skills.
- To have sound organisational & problem-solving skills.
Should the successful candidate present with an MC truck licence & current first aid certificate, both will be viewed extremely favourably. Prior experience working within a machinery operating role on a cattle station will be advantageous, however non-essential. A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Single, air-conditioned accommodation + all meals will be provided.
